So, being new and stuff here, I figured I'd give a bit of background. A while ago, I started an XCOM tabletop RPG with Noble Six and a couple of other guys, although I don't know their usernames here. And, since I changed colleges and now live about 7-9 hours away from them, I figured we could try to pick it up here. Anyone else interested?
I'll post the general story so far here.
The year is 2006 [If I remember correctly ]. The world is becoming stranger and stranger every day. Mankind sees farther into the endless void of knowledge than ever before. However, a greater threat than ever before known rests on the horizon.
From light years away, they came. Unstoppable, innumerable, and clever beyond conception, our only saving grace was that they seemed to want to fight the same invisible war that we did. Abductions in the night. Experimentation on a docile populace. Observation on major military bases. And the only thing in their way was us--XCOM. We were poorly funded for the task at hand, with several million dollars given to us by the United Nations, in the hopes it would keep the paranoid, and in this case rightly so, minorities in various governments quiet.
My name is Commander Ulysses. I was there for the first operation of our little team, and I've seen each operation since. Not from the ground, thank god, but through camera feeds, radio feeds, and drone feeds. Nothing but audio/visual since they shot me up with...whatever it is they use. We've seen some good friends rise and fall, and life and death are always at play here. One day, I'll sign a rook's admission papers, go over his dozen commendations from the Green Berets or wherever he's from, and then not two days later, we'll be burying him and covering up his death with some hazy excuse.
Then came New York City. That's when things changed, all around. I think the aliens had just about enough of our little resistance, and decided to hit a major--the major metropolitan area. Our best and brightest got in there, and dug up some nasty stuff on a series of operations two very secretive countries had wanted to forget. Now I've got two three inch thick folders from the Russians and the Americans on "Operation Black Dog" and "Operation Xenonaut" that need thumbing through.
I dislike my job, but apparently I'm the man for it.
XCOM's Acquired tech:
Laser tech
Laser pistols
Laser rifles
Limited research by a now-deceased scientists on the odd bio-organic nature of some of the xenos
Presently researching-Alloys [Correct me if I'm wrong, Noble-Six]
That's about the gist of what I remember at five AM--It'd be cool if each [surviving] character could give a brief backstory on their character. The way this is going to work is that once or twice a week, I'll try and set up an actual game, through some means, and we'll play through that, while the rest of the week would be like problem solving, or investigation, or down time. Should the once-a-week game plan fall through [which is SOOO likely given my summer plans] I'll do a choose your own adventure type thing on here. I think it'll work. If I need to get dice involved, I'll roll them in person, and post the checks.
Thoughts? Questions?
