I like the video as it acts as a physical representation of his struggle with this choice. Demo Reel was being bashed to high hell and well I can see why, I liked it, but I see why. And i think along the way Doug had an epiphany. He has been doing NC for a long time and it was a combination of looking at his recent work and feeling he peeked during the Moulin Rouge review plus the fact of the threat of SOPA, ACTA and any potential following bill threatening the works of internet reviewers (which if you see how fussy youtube is, it's not shocking to consider). So he wanted to do original work, hence Demo Reel. Plus Doug was wise enough to be on the receiving end of being criticized and to take heed. He didn't explode or lash out at his fan base. He thought about it. Was he really done? Or was he just in need of a break? He might just have been creatively burnt out as the NC and needed to step away. While I am sad to see Demo Reel go...as I felt it had potential and the characters were growing on me...let's face it , I want the NC back too. I just hope he can keep the DR crew around as...they were pretty good actors. |
