Sarah is the antagonist of the first chapter of the novel, and is the mother of the novel's main character. Where she was born and her early childhood are unknown, and just slightly more is known of her more recent past. At the time of her appearance, she is 48 years old, but hides her age with decepitevly good looks. She is quite tall, actually the fourth tallest character in the novel. She has fair skin, and blood red eyes which turn purple when her powers are released.

According to her, she hates the UR because its soldiers did nothing to address her kidnapping at age 14, when she was taken by a hitchiker and beaten, brutally raped, and left for dead in the sparse forests of Ontario. She is extremely hateful, and does not trust anyone. She hates the UR so much that she is even unafraid of the Fuhrer, though she knowingly (and grudgngly) accepts the gap in strength between them.

In the novel, she exploits numerous attacks against the UR, apparently told to do so by Mother, a figure of the Maternity she has undying respect for but for reasons unknown. Between chapters 1 and 2, she is involved with a fight against a UR General, and even her power is easily overwhelmed. She goes back to the Maternity's base in Nebraska and apologizes to Mother for failing her mission, before dying of her wounds on 12/21/2312 at the age of 63.

Corporal John K. Hillington: He is a member of the UA (United Army), the descendant remains of the US Army. Although he is official infantry, he is usually mitigated to tasks such as scoping out the capital area for members of the maternity. He prefers this to combat, but he still has trouble coming to terms with “memories” of another soldier’s deployment.

Hillington is generally a very placid person, though his frustraiton at being assigned to the MTF (Maternity Task Force) is obvious sometimes, especially when he faces inquiries on it. He looks up to the Fuhrer as a paragon of justice, and does not think well of civilians who root for the Maternity. He, like most every other character, is plagued by recurring memories which may or may not belong to him, possibly depicting the destruction of the war. He had numerous personal run-ins with Luna Rogue, and sometimes recollects them when dealing with her daughter, who also takes the same moniker.

Between chapters 1 and 2, he advances in his military career, and eventually attains the rank of Colonel. He still hates the Maternity and has made Luna's daughter's capture somewhat of a personal vendetta.

Sarah Lynn Rogue, Jr.: The main character and daughter of the infamous Luna Rogue, who holds the same moniker. Like her mother, she is a member of the Maternity and has risen to become one of Mother’s most trusted agents. However, unlike her mother, who joined the maternity out of spite, she is more interested in simply carrying on her mother’s legacy. Like her, she possesses greatly enhanced abilities, but she is much more hotheaded than her mother.

Loreena Thompson: she is a small, quiet and extremely introverted woman. Her wispy voice, however, hides the mind of an extraordinary thinker, light-years beyond all other characters. She speaks with a soft tone of voice, and does not raise it even in the most stressful situations. She joined the Maternity after her parents made her leave the house, stating they could not nurture her immense intelligence. After Mother makes Loreena Luna’s partner, she grudgingly comes to accept that Loreena is the smarter of the two of them. Her signature is a huge bang which covers half her face, and is never moved under any circumstances.

Kate Kimborough: A friend of Luna’s who behind her humorously incessant lust hides slightly greater power than Luna. Not much is known about her, except that she was cast away from her family when her promiscuity began to spiral out of control and landed her dad in trouble with the UR government. She is just slightly shorter than Luna, and she is blind in her right eye from an ill-fated encounter with a UR General.

A bit aloof when it comes to issues of the Maternity, Lucas is the commander of the Western Command of troops for the UR. He is often considered the most hearty of the generals, but he often chalks up his strength to his acquired discipline of training under other Generals, unusual but not unheard of for such a high-ranking officer.

The lone female General and one of only two in the history of the UR, Lucille's strength may very well go far beyond that of a normal General, since females are only selected for officer positions if proven to be stronger than any male candidate at the time. What kinds of powers does she possess, and what does this mean for the UR?

She is the Commander of Southern troops, and as such she has little contact with the regulatory forces back Home under General Richardson. There is little telling what she could get away with doing....
