In the year AD2317, the entire world has long since been devastated by an unknown event, most likely a war, so catastrophic in nature that entire continents have been left unrecognizeable, and two--Antarctica and Australia--don't even exist anymore.
This is a basic synopsis of the world the characters live in:
NORTH AMERICA
1) The Northern polar ice cap has broken into two major sections, “N1” and “N2”
2) Canada has been almost entirely forested, with glaciers having carved three large new valleys—destroying the provinces of Saskatchewan and British Columbia. At this time, Canada is believed to be uninhabited.
3) The Cascade Range has been completely destroyed, and Washington, Oregon and much of northern California have been thrust into a tundra-like climate.
4) Considerable portions of the south of California, including the city of Los Angeles, have long since collapsed into the Pacific Ocean and now lie at maximum depths of up to 1,000 feet below sea level.
5) The area containing Mexico, Texas and New Mexico now lies no higher than sea level and is mostly swampland
6) Mexico City has apparently drifted below sea level and east, into the Gulf of Mexico.
7) Panama has been completely destroyed, replaced with a set of waterfalls hundreds of times larger than Victoria Falls and thousands of feet higher.
SOUTH AMERICA and Antarctica
8) The nation of Ecuador has sunk into the Pacific Ocean, Taking with it most of the nation of Peru
9) Central South America has been completely annihilated, with a giant, almost perfect crater replacing the nations of Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay, most of Argentina and much of Chile. This continent is presumed to be uninhabited, except for the far north.
10) The nation of Brazil has been converted into a sort of base, with its central command located in the crater
11) The Andes Mountains are now the highest in the world, with a circular part of the chain around the crater reaching 100,000 feet above sea level in some places
12) The continent of Antarctica no longer exists. The location of true south is unknown.
EUROPE
13) The British Isles and Northern Ireland lie tilted into the North Atlantic Ocean. The city of London has been completely destroyed
14) Iceland has been destroyed by a series of catastrophic volcanic eruptions
15) Most of Ireland lies on a tilt opposite the UK
16) It is believed that, in or around the year 2200, the western European continent suffered a massive series of natural fissure openings. These openings are known to have caused the collapse of the Alps mountain range. The Matterhorn is the only remaining Alpine peak, and now stands over 30,000 feet high.
17) The collapse of the Alpine range has completely obliterated central Europe. None of the nations which can be said to belong to this region—Except Italy—exist, all having collapsed into the earth along with the Alpine range
18) It is believed that, in or around the year 2068, the Ural mountain range partially collapsed, taking with it the Slavic state of Ukraine.
AUSTRALASIA AND OCEANIC ISLAND NATIONS
19) Russia lies on a severe tilt into the north Pacific, with its western borders consisting on sheer cliffs over 20,000 feet in height. Moscow’s remains are partially visible from Alaska, which is now the world’s largest island.
20) The nation of Japan was artificially submerged during the war for use as a submarine base, and now the only above-water parts of it are Tokyo and Hokkaido. Mount Fujiyama was obliterated by the same massive nuclear detonation that sunk the islands.
21) India has been submerged for some time now, and is in this time rumored to have once been a nation of over 1 billion people, twice the population of the entire world now.
22) Most of southeast Asia cracked off during whatever event happened so long ago, and lies slightly submerged. Regular monsoons easily flood the entire area.
23) Australia no longer exists. In this story, its destruction has been so complete, no one believes that a continent ever existed here, or ever could. The only visible portion of the continent is Ayer’s rock.
24) No one is sure of the fate of the numerous Pacific Island nations, though almost no one doubts their residents were killed along with almost everyone else.
