Man always looks to the horizon for hope. Always looking for something better than what they got. A new job, the perfect lover...always something more than what they got. What if you had such a gift? What if you could alter your fate?
Three years ago a man looked to the horizon, a man who could alter everyone's fates and he took a step back. Now today because of his decision the horizon's light holds not hope.
It only holds despair.
"Oh my God."
Her name is Tammy, she is not a good person. Still for all her sins not even she would have deserved the fate that almost befell her. She was part of a three man team whose job is it to seek out certain types of people. People like them, people with...power. Her partners are the muscle and she the transport. It was a simple job, she was just a 16 year old girl.
However she had power in spades. The power of the sun itself. She turned it on them in fear only for one of her allies to claim it for himself, then the two became deadlocked in a power struggle...that went wrong. They seems to become something of a power circuit, feeding off the others power until it burst. If Tammy was any slower she and her other partner would have burned.
However the sight they see miles away makes them almost wish they did. Paris was burning away, and it was their fault.
"Ah...ah dinnae believe it. Paris it's..." She said in shock.
Her partner, a man dressed for combat turns to her. "Get over it...we need to start looking for Id and the girl. We need to bring at least one of them back."
"Are ya daft? They just went up in flames. We cannae even bring back their corpses" Tammy snapped.
"No...they both live. I can sense them both. She's on the move. Id is..." Their watches beep. "It's command, they must know."
"Ah'm not takin' any responsibility for that bloody fool." Tammy protests.
"What....what bloody fool?" A voice says as a man who looked fine for bing in the midst of an inferno says. His clothing was burned and he was covered in soot but was strangely unphased.
"Id yer...what the Hell happened?" She says.
"SHH." The fighter says. "It's the boss."
"Takashi...tell me why Paris is burning?"
"Sir, Id copied the targets power and used it on her, and she in turn attacked him. It seemed to create some sort of feedback loop that...caused thir power to lash out and destroy Paris. Id is recovered and she's alive but not in out possession." He said to assure his employer. "Please...allow me to..."
"Retreat for now. She has nowhere else to go and we don't need you three caught. Get to safety and regroup, we'll resume the hunt another day." The transmission then cut out.
"So...looks like we keep our jobs. Yay for us?" The man called Id joked.
"Tammy?" The fighter says, ignoring him.
"Right." Tammy takes one more look back at Paris before grabbing onto her allies and disappearing.
One week later, in America...
This was the end of her first ever flight. Chantal was glad to be on the ground again. It wasn't so much as the flight bothered her but...she herself was bothered.
After all a week ago she caused Paris to burn, and sh knew those people were still after her.
She was in O'Hare International Airport, Chicago, Illinois. Why she was there was a mystery in and of itself. She had received a plane ticket and money with the promise of help. Whether or not this was a trap or not was not much of a concern for her. She was not caring anymore. The nightmares of that day were making hr wish it could all end but...if help was there...could she get it? Would she be free? Forgiven?

Woo hoo! The one good thing about the damn move! That was all Cayne thought as he flew along the highway on his motorcycle. The journey from his new home in Aurora Illinois (population 170,00+) to Chicago was nearly an hour long, and thus rather annoying. But to the boy who'd grown up thinking a Walmart was huge, he had exactly no complaints; if possible, he probably would have danced on the motorcycle.
"Gunna get me some new jeans...with some shiny new chains. Maybe a few new rings...Then gunna go find me something to shoot." His words were carried on the wind as he turned into the city. "To the mall!"

Leah sat in her room, everything quiet. She lived in the outskirts of the town of Albion, Pennsylvania, and didnt get to see much action, which was okay with her. She put down her pencil and studied her drawing, eyeing it over skeptically before picking the pencil back up and erasing gently. She heard the door slam downstairs
"Leah, I'm home!" her mother shouted up the stairs. She looked at the door, put her stuff aside and went downstairs to see her mom. "Hey, how was work?" Her mom smiled widely, clapping her hands together. Instantly Leah felt a rush of happiness, as her mother exclaimed, "I got promoted!" Leah smiled a smile wide enough to match her mothers. "Good for you, mom!" As her mother moved to the kitchen, she asked "So got any plans tonight?" Leah followed her and sighed. "Nope. Lonely day in school again. No big deal, though. I'm working on a new song, that's probably it." Her mother studied her for a moment, then asked, "How about going out to dinner tonight? Your father's working late tonight."
"Sure."

Kris fell to the floor as the mans knife flew threw the air. the man teleported around the clearing. "Your fucking dead brat." the mans voice rang from around the area. He had no idea why the man wanted him dead, but he knew to stay just outside of his perimeter. Kris dove away as yet another knife flew past him. "Why are you using these things if you aren't good with them." Kris laughed nervously.
"Fuck you brat!!" the man yelled. throwing another six. Kris fell to the ground as they passed over him. The man stood over him as he turned over. "Now what brat?" the man growled. "This." he said quietly. A moment later he was gone. Kris stood a few feet away from the man. He turned and tried to teleport, but fell onto his knees. "What the hell?" "Now leave me alone jerk." he said bringing his pistol up. He shot once, and the mans left thigh erupted in blood. "You son of a bitch kid, ahh...er.." when the man looked up, the teenager was gone.
Kris reapeaered back where this chase had started from, on the side of a highway, near Albion Pennsylvania. He let out a huge breath, and fell to his knees, the others powers had left suddenly, and knocked the breath out of him. "Shit....that....was close, any longer and I woulda.." he said clutching his chest. His bookbag was still on the floor. Inside, his money, ammo and extra clothes were still there. He rummaged through it, and pulled out a bottle of pills, he took one and swallowed it. His vision cleared, and he breathed deeply, "too close." He stood, and put his pack on. he slipped the pills away again, and stuck his left arm out as he walked. He made a fist and stuck his thumb up. "I really dont no why I didnt just port to freaking Harrisburg." he said lowering his head, and brushing some of his red highlights.

Cayne navigated easily through the streets of Chicago, only half watching the traffic and half watching the people around him. It wasn't as if he'd been here hundreds of times, but he had no fear of the traffic. It was rather irrational, he decided as he drove, he'd grown up where there were hardly enough cars to crash into, one would think he would be terrified, but he just couldn't be.
As he pulled into the mall parking lot, he smirked to himself, deciding it was probably because of the fact so few people were ever even rude to him: actually hurting him seemed odd, even if it couldn't be prevented. He slipped off the bike with practiced ease and stretched, after a ride like that he was a little stiff, even if he was rather happy. He shouldered the bag he'd brought with him after checking his weapon and the papers that let him carry it were in there and pulled his iPod from his pocket. "Good day..." he murmured to himself

"Why are ya so fidgety all of a sudden?" Tammy was watching The Adept for some time. There's not much to do in an airport waiting area and when someone like him is restless it's usually a bad sign.
"I feel another power. Not too far from here too." The Adept answers.
"Maybe if we take down this lass right quick...without destroyin' another town in the process...maybe we kin make this a two for one deal?" Tammy suggests.
"Not until we know who summoned her. We almost had her in Toulouse...then she got this mystery ticket." The Adept reminds her.
"Heh...I think I already know." Id smirks. "Takashi...do a scan for something like me."
"Do not refer to me by that name, only Mr. St. Germain can call me Takashi." The Adept says.
"Whatever...you don't hear me whining when I'm called Gabriel." Id says.
"Wait...do ye think on of yuir other selves is behind this?" Tammy asks.
"I think my Ego is flexing itself at last, yes." Id smiles. "This will be fun if I'm right."

Cayne wandered around the mall with a soft but content sigh. Hands in his pocket, iPod blaring music into one ear and looking around curiously, he couldn't help but be happy. People seemed to catch his happiness as well, few people passed him without a wave, smile or hello and though he didn't know any of them it wasn't odd in the slightest; it was more normal than breathing to him.
He grinned brightly when he saw a store which suited his tastes well and promptly entered, humming to the tune of the music he listened to. Mere moments after he entered a salesperson entered and it was with good humor that he indulged her and began talking about the clothes and just about everything else that came to mind.

Matthew looked over the newspaper he had bought 5 days ago for possibly the hundredth time. He had been searching for the man that was there when his parents had died for months now, scrapping together cash he could grab and rarely dipping into his inheritance to move around, eventually coming to Chicago after a news report he saw 2 weeks ago had a man in the background that looked very similar. The particular newspaper article he kept reading involved the total destruction of Paris by fire. Ever since seeing that article, Matthew had felt defeated. If the man he was after was destroying entire cities now, what chance did he have for revenge? Granted, he wasn't even sure the man was behind it, but it was the only lead he had.
Sighing, he put the paper down and took a bite out of a hotdog. He was hanging around in an alley by the mall, his current residence. It was dark enough to keep him safe from the light, and at night he'd go into the mall and grab some food. Other than that, however, he hadn't really been having the best post-high school life. Traveling around the country, getting by on as little as possible. Oh, and his parents were dead and he was without any of his belongings. That was less than happy as well.
Which made it all the weirder when he suddenly felt a little bit happier not too long ago, like someone had just cheered him up. It didn't last long, but it was confusing, intriguing even. Weirder yet, it even made him want to go into the mall. But that was a bad idea. He didn't exactly look anonymous with his current get up and was bound to get stares, which would lead to someone noticing his eyes, which was all he needed right now. So, for the moment Matthew Blake sat in a dark alley eating a hot dog, contemplating life.

Cayne exited the store, empty handed but smiling to himself lightly. The silver on his face and pants glinted in the artificial light and he pocketed his phone lightly. He hadn't bought anything at the store as motorcycles were completely horrendous for carrying extra things and he really didn't want to try to rig something up for the hour ride home. He had however, come out with several phone numbers of people who'd wanted to talk more -hopefully just a friends- which was an oddly normal occurrence. He shrugged to himself as he considered that particular oddity about himself. His mother referred to him as charismatic, told him he would be a great politician, something the redhead mentally laughed at. His grandmother had, before her death at least, jokingly commented it was from being the child of a downwinder and his father merely encouraged him to use it to get the ladies: as if.
He shook his head, sending shoulder length hair flying in every direction and turned his attention to the food court, aiming on getting a sub or something.

Gina drifted around the corner of the highway. She was singing along with her favorite song "The Reason" by Hoobstank when she spotted something odd. A guy was walking on the side of the road, with a rather large pack on his back. She saw that he had his arm out, in the old fashioned hitch-hikers way of signaling. "Hmmm, poor guy, Maybeh I should help him out." she said as she pulled up past him. She stuck her head out the window. "Hey buddy, going my way?...No wait, thats your line? right." she said happily.

The air was cool and a slight breeze blew through the trees. A can of coffee stood atop an erected post a ways down the hill side. Following its point of origin would lead you a log cabin that stood alone as the only structure for miles among the pines and various trees. Click click click. The sound broke through the silence and then silence replaced its grip upon the mountain landscape. If you were to follow the sound you would find only trees standing like guardians of something hidden. But hidden by some leaves lay a man; a sniper rifle with a bi-pod attachment in front of him. Click click click. As he adjusted the dial once more lining up the target in his scope as he held his breath. The world seemed to freeze for eternity as his finger found the trigger and then……………BANG! The gun fired and surely enough through the sights Cedric saw the can shattered upon the bullets impact. He smiled with slight delight at his success as he folded the gun up and put it into its carrying case. He then stood and surveyed the scenery. He then whistled……………….and then came a large Siberian husky as it ran up the adjacent hillside. He scratched the dog behind the ears as he let the dog have its fun. “Ohh good boy good boy. Now listen, Duke I’ll be back soon I just need to take a vacation or rather escape this place for a bit. Clear my head.” He then patted the dog as they walked together back to the house. As he entered he surveyed the room, upon the table was all the things he’d be taking with him, every weapon that he’d chosen and then some ordinary things. He rolled it all up and packed it into some duffel bags as he loaded them into his jeep. He grabbed his aviators from the chair and locked the door on the way out. He’d already had arrangements made so that Duke would be taken care of. He patted the dog one last time as he hopped in on the jeep and sped off down the mountain pass that led to his seclude home. First he’d pass through the neighboring down of Ashcroft and then head his way to Chicago. He’d been told he’d have fun there. The gunshot still rang in his mind.

Kris looked up and smiled. He released the perimeter of the aura around him. So it was an arms length away in every direction. He smiled, and walked over to the truck."Hey thanks" he said climbing into the cab. ((Umm chem,....aren't her clothes....made from...well her power....))

Dragon sat in his room, Wishing that his mother and brother will still alive. They were killed in a car accident a few years back, which was the cause of him realizing his power. He lives alone in a small one story house with a basement near the forest. Dragon got up and walked outside and layed down on the grass. There aren't many clouds today he thought to himself.
