CP and I have an RP idea that would basically be in a steampunk/clockwork world. There'd be some limits on guns (which I think are hilarious the way they'd work in this situation) and all of the magic would have to be some sort of 'sixth sense' power so like psycic abilities, but you can be creative with it. *NOTE: we decided to limit 'elemental control' powers to pyrokinesis, and characters with that would have to have at least a fuel source, so there'd be no sudden fire.
we have a minor story plot in mind, like how the Miyazaki had the background info then we went crazy with our own plots.
If there's interest I'll post more.
and if anyone is like "Sounds cool! But eh...I'm not too sure exactally what steampunk is..."/ "I know what it is but...I wanna make sure we have the same mindset." just say so and I'll count that as 'elaborate plox'.

lol. yay ^^. Well, like said we're gunna be a bit loose on it. We've got backstory, and then we're gunna' let it go from there. but as for names of different places and stuff, that could be helpful. who knows, you and Aura could construct a map lol.

Damn you High Mage! You're planning on using my idea for a flamethrower-pyromaniac >.<
But yeah, what's steampunk?

Steampunk is develpment of technology via anachronistic means especially using technologies from the early and mid 19th century, and utilizing it with the functionality of today's technology.

Basically, What if we never found fossil fuels? What if the entire world carried on,, and we have modern day inventions, all powered by steam, steam engines, that sort of thing.
like cars, motorcycles, and robots, just all driven by steam, and not fuels.

Can electricity still be derived from steam power?
And wouldn't steam power be unrealistic for stuff like? Imagine all the water that would be used up...

see that's the beauty of steampunk, that's not a problem because instead of avdvancing on fossil fuels, we advanced steam tech. so the water useage isn't a problem. that and water is a renewable resource ^^
that and, it's another world. we're gunna name the country and stuff.
as for lighters, they'd have to be something without gas. so like a zippo version of one of those sparker things people use. that or some sort of steam-based lighter. but honestly the sparker thing sounds more realistic.

You didn't say if electricity could be derived from steam power though...
And actually, you could use coal for fueling fires since they had discovered coal to make most steam engines work in the 19th century, so theres a source of fire for ya.

yeah, coal works. and yes there is electricity, it's just steam powered.
k since there seems to be interest.
The setting is the contintinent of Ecetais. Most of the continent is controled by the Arcadis Empire, an extremely Imperialist nation. (more on the basics of this later). Recently, The Empire finished a war with it's former neighbooring county Tektallium. With the finish of the War, The Empire took control over Tektallium and has placed troops throughout it to maintain order in the newly taken-over country.
Arcadis is, like said, very imperialistic. They are known for having nobles with very powerful psycic powers, especially the royal family. Because of this, the perople are very proud of their leadership and almost worship them like they would Gods (a little less intense than that, but you get the point). They are especially proud of the current prince Elric, who is a well known telekinetic protegee, and is said by some, to already be as powerful as his father. There is a tradition in the royal family of only having one child, because of Laws that make it easier that way. The Emperor's first born is immediate heir, should he want to make someone else his heir, they would have to kill the current heir first. This had caused a violent history amoungst siblings in the royal family, and has lead to the general decision, it's just better to have one kid. The people of Arcadis have a deep sense that they are better than any people of a taken over country. This has lead to the general belittlement of the people of the Former, Tektallium Kingdom. (note, I've got dibs on at least the prince of this place, I not sure if i want the Emperor.)
Tektallium's royal familly was much different, they had earned their people's love through actions not power. The royal family wasn't limited to one Prince/Princess. the King and Queen were killed in the final seige of the capital, it is unknown how many of their children survived. (yes this means you can have characters that were royalty. let it be said though, that they didn't have 50 kids, so if there are others who have Princes or Princesses of this place, please consider just being a noble. Any of these characters would be either on the run, captured or part of the rebel force. realistically. If you think of something else then cool.) The capital city is called Lavistin, The Clockwork City. (so implied by its name, it is even more clockwork and gear-ozed than you're average steampunk city.)
There is one other mentionable 'Country'. the ' ' is because Arcadis doesn't view them as a country, just as well a Junkyard, in fact that's what they call the country. The real name is Sectora, and it is a country populated, by robots. (every good steampunk world has steampunk mechs in it somehow.) it was started when a version of a robot was created with human intelligence. It was found to be illogical to have intelligent robots, so the modle was discontinued. The robots however, with their human intelligence, knew what would soon befall them if they were not being used (and they didn't like how they were used in tht first place(slaves esentially)), so they 'ran away' to a secluded area on the continent, uninhabited by humans due to a large mountain border. they made it their home, built a city and factories, and built more of their kind. They now have a good sized population. they usually keep to themselves, but had been engaging in trade with Tektallium prior to its takeover.
like said, psycic powers. stuff that has to do with using natural human senses. so you can have uped hearing or suttin'.
and now, guns. there are high powered machine gun turrets, but an easy to carry, portable gun has yet to be invented. there is one version made, but it's honestly, illogical. (aura has a character who invented it) It consistes of a large backpack like chamber (and we're talking bigger than a hiking backpack) that holds pressurized steam, a large tube that conects this chamber to a gun, and the gun part, a very heavy, oversized revolver sort of thing, that fires off bullets that are about the size of a very large egg, at a rate of oh say, three rounds a minute, and that's if the preasureizer has been running for a while. this model is only a prototype, and aura's character has it. if you..really want one, talk to him. Honestly, powers are better.
and that should about cover it. characters can be human or robot, of any nation and whatnot. sorry if that was more info than you expected. ;D

Mmk...So, in conclusion, this is bascially 19th century technology we've all got here then? No nukes, M16s, tanks, planes, etc. Just steam engine, horse and buggy, steam powered cars, stuff like that.

eh, sorta', there are modern things like tanks and other crud (no nukes). horse and buggy, you can...but there are steam motor cycles...
there really wouldn't be TV, but radio yes....um...
really you gotta' mix that old stuff with modern aspects. Like, the cars could look like modern cars, only add some gears. and robots are like the iron giant. in general, steampunk tec. is like a less 'smooth' version of other brands of scifi.
