After millenia of diplomatic constraint, tossing responsibility for numerous rapturous enviromental disasters around, and two full-scale nuclear wars, our once-perennial Mother Earth is dying. No new terrestrial energy reserves of any kind have been ofund in centuries, and entire swaths of the world do not know what electricity is.
The most recent war, World War IX, has obliterated the ecosystem which was already so fragily holding us up, and the distention of the environment has caused the extinction of all plant species and most animalia, resulting in decades-log famines that have killed billions.
The year is 4044. Of the peak 2110 population of nearly 20 billion, only 5 million remain, consigned to the gigantic ships of the Frontier Fleet, a class of vessels built for one purpose: ferry humankind to a habitable planet before the global hurricanes and blizzards, some covering entire hemispheres, wipe us out.
In our search, we have stumbled upon a most peculiar planet...one which seems like it already possesses indigenous inhabitants, giving us an aura of discovery not felt since Columbus sailed to our shores in 1492. This planet's method of generating energy sources differs greatly from Earth, with its main resources being far easier to use and refine.
Dubbed Magic, the humans who colonize this world, in concensus, have chosen to forgo their extremely advanced technology in favor of using something in which we can live more harmoniously with our perennial surroundings. Of these men, the first to truly master these newfound abilities was Merlin, in conjunction with his brother, Snape, the former discovering a true Fountain of Yourh in its embrace. Using their abilities, they were able to segregate humanity into magic classes as they saw fit.
Upon discovering evidence of the existence of indigenous inhabitants, as in the excavation of a millenia-old information repository, and immediately the information contained within was brought to scrutiny. Should it be relegated to those who show a prodigious mastery of the magical elements, or open to the entire public to view and learn from. Another war, this time an intellectual one, was waged between Merlin and his brother.
The intellectual battles eventually gave way to the discovery of the ancient indigenous peoples of the planet, to whom the intellectual war being waged is apparently irrelevant. This has lead to a prevailing, though slightly tenuous peace of the masses...
